Support for Your Subject

Academic Librarians:

Academic Librarians have a teaching, a resource budget, and a faculty/school academic liaison role.

Teaching

Academic Librarians make sure that you can access the resources (including ebooks, journals, databases, reports and statistics) you need.  They help you identify, retrieve and evaluate those resources.  So that you can do this efficiently your academic librarian will help you develop information skills in a variety of ways: during course teaching sessions (for example, the library induction at the start of the academic year), drop-in workshops and one-to-one appointments (for example, to help you search the literature for your final project or dissertation).  You can speak to a librarian, without an appointment, at the Library’s Help and Information Point; or make an appointment to see your subject specialist librarian, see details below.

Resource Budget

Academic librarians have an overview of the library collection in particular subject areas.  A budget is allocated to each subject area.  Academic Librarians spend the budget to enhance the collection and to license access to electronic types of information.  If you would like to suggest resources for the library please contact your Academic Librarian.

Faculty/school academic liaison

An Academic Librarian is designated for each subject area and has responsibility for liaison with teaching staff about the Library resources needed for new and existing courses.  Academic Librarians attend course development and review meetings, course committees/annual monitoring meetings and other appropriate committees.
